The chief minister of states in India is elected by the members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) of that particular state. The leader of the majority party in the state assembly is usually appointed as the chief minister by the governor of the state.
Decisions taken by the chief minister and other ministers should be debated in the Legislative Assembly because these decisions have to be approved by the members of the legislative assembly. The MLAs are collectively responsible for the work that the government does.
