∙ 15y agoOzone is measured as being present in air, and as being dissolved in water. In air, each molecular bond responds to a wavelength of light. The type and number of atoms on each bond affects the wavelengths the molecule will respond to. Ozone uniquely responds to 254-320nm, which is UV-B (the wavelength that damages DNA and causes cataracts). The absorption / scattering can allow us to determine the concentration of ozone present, via the "Beer Lambert Law". Ozone in water is detectable by way of its "oxidation reduction potential", or using a polarographic membrane sensor, or using a known amount of a compound that changes color when oxidized and letting the unknown amount of ozone get to it. The more the color change, the more ozone is present.
