The CHEVY / GMC Medium duty trucks have power assisted hydraulic brakes. The assist comes from the power-steering pump (not vacuum as with cars or light trucks). Pretty sure the brake system trade name for the C4500 series truck is HYDROBOOST and the trade name for the C5500 is HYDROMAX.
This brake system incorporates monitors for various things that can go wrong. When it does the dashboard BRAKE light (to the left of the speedometer) will come on as well as the SERVICE BRAKE light which is to the right of the steering wheel below the radio - it has a picture of a wrench. At the same time the warning CHIME will sound continuously. It will not silence until you fix the problem.
On my 2003 C5500 truck I discovered after much aggravation that the warning chime and light was sounding because of a failure in the electric backup to the HYDROMAX. The HYDROMAX system has an electric pump to power the HYDROMAX in the event the engine stalls while driving. Without it you would loose power braking if the engine stalled while driving. This electric backup system is checked every time the engine is started. If it does not come on, the warning light and chime will come on shortly. The pump is mounted at the firewall under the hood behind the steering wheel attached to the master cylinder. The pump is powered by a 40 amp plug in relay located right next to the electric motor.
On my truck this relay went bad and changing the relay solved the entire problem.
As a side note: if the brake fluid is low in the reservoir, the dash BRAKE light will come on but not the SERVICE BRAKE light.
Take it to a garage to be serviced by a qualified mechanic.
To reset the service brake light on a 2006 Chevy C5500 Diesel, first, ensure that the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the ignition is off. Turn the ignition key to the "On" position without starting the engine, and press the brake pedal several times. If the light persists, use a diagnostic scanner to check for any stored trouble codes and clear them, which should reset the brake light. Always consult the owner's manual for specific instructions related to your vehicle.
The reset ranch light with the oil can on a Chevy C 5500 is a warning to check the oil. It can also mean that the oil needs to be changed.
To bleed the brakes on a Chevrolet C5500, start by ensuring the vehicle is on a level surface and securely supported. Begin at the wheel farthest from the master cylinder, typically the passenger rear wheel, and use a brake bleeder wrench to open the bleeder valve while a helper presses the brake pedal. Close the valve before the pedal is released, then repeat until no air bubbles appear in the fluid. Move to the next wheel in the order: driver rear, passenger front, and finally driver front, ensuring the brake fluid reservoir is kept topped up throughout the process.
The 2003 Chevy C5500 typically uses a rear fuel tank that has a capacity of around 50 gallons. It is designed to work in conjunction with the vehicle's fuel system, providing fuel to the engine efficiently. If you're looking for specific parts or replacements, it's advisable to check compatibility with the model and consult repair manuals or parts suppliers for accurate information.
The main features of the Chevrolet C5500 is that of a flatbed 4X4 truck. It features a 6.6L V8 Duramax 8 cylinder diesel engine and is equipped with a 5 speed automatic transmission.
On a Chevrolet C5500, the oil pressure sender is typically located on the engine block, near the oil filter. It is usually found on the driver's side, towards the rear of the engine, depending on the specific engine configuration. Access may require some maneuvering, especially in tight engine compartments. Always consult the vehicle's service manual for precise location and details.
