A signal that suffers frequency distortion has one of its frequencies shifted higher or lower. A signal that suffers phase distortion has one of its frequencies shifted in time compared to others. Take, for example, a square wave. Shift the phase of the primary harmonic and you have a mess that sounds the same pitch but different. If you shifted the frequency, it would sound higher or lower.
The fundamental = 1st harmonic is not an overtone!Fundamental frequency = 1st harmonic.2nd harmonic = 1st overtone.3rd harmonic = 2nd overtone.4th harmonic = 3rd overtone.5th harmonic = 4th overtone.6th harmonic = 5th overtone.Look at the link: "Calculations of Harmonics from FundamentalFrequency".
The first harmonic is the fundamental. The second harmonic the first overtone. The third harmonic the second overtone. The fourth harmonic the third overtone. Even-numbered harmonics are odd-numbered overtones. Odd-numbered harmonics are even-numbered overtones.

Total harmonic distortion is a measurement of harmonic distortion in an object and is the percentageÊof the powers of all the harmonic components of the object. The THD of a diesel generator is between 15% and 20%.

THDI stands for Total Harmonic Distortion- Apsilal
Total Harmonic Distortion is an important phenomenon while selecting a UPS. AC Harmonic content (THD-Voltage) shall be <= 3% for linear load and <=5% for non linear load.

Harmonic distortion belongs to all amplifiers, loudspeakers and simply all electrical equipment you use. When it comes to audio, the only effect you will hear is a constant resonant low noise if the speakers aren't good at handling harmonic distortion. None of the Bose speakers I have tested so far produce that noise, so you don't have to worry about that.
distortion refers to any deviation in any parameter like amplitude, time shape of an electrical signal from an ideal input signal.the distortion occurs due to the inherent non-linear characteristics of the component and devices that form the electronic circuit cause some harmonics to take place in the waveform and resultant deviation is know as harmonic distortion.
Class C since output cycle is less than 90 degrees for a full input. But it has highest power gain going upto 98%. And the exact term used for distortion is Total Harmonic Distortion since the distortion produced will be in multiples of the fundamental frequencies.
It is Total Harmonic Distortion, and has to do with how "clean" the output power is. For those of us in the lighting and electrical world, THD refers to the Harmonic Distortion present with most electrical equipment, and more specifically now, the distortion present with electronic ballasts. THD is the measurement of the distortion created from the equipment's current draw. True resistive loads, such as an incandescent light bulb, do not have THD. Equipment containing coils and capacitors, such as motors, drives, fluorescent lighting and HID lighting, have some measure of THD.
To put it simply, harmonics are unwanted, predictable, and repeatable noise riding on an electrical waveform. In power applications, harmonics can damage equipment, overheat transformers, and cause erratic operation. This is especially true if the harmonic is a multiple of the base frequency (100 Hertz, 150 Hertz, etc. for a 50Hz reference). Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) is a term to describe the total waveform distortion by all the harmonics present on the waveform. You should have as little as possible. Many power utilities require a THD limit at the point where a facilities connects to the utility.
