One method is to use a news paper and string, one string side on the egg and then a string to the center of paper then do the same thing for the other sides and you will have a shield. Another method is to use a long cardboard tube weighted at the bottom loosely packed with compressible material such as Easter egg basket grass, over cooked macaroni - it is important the pointed end of the egg face down and the top of the tube is finished with a compressible ball to absorb the drop to the side at the end of the fall.

Get a bowl. It needs to be big enough to put an egg and water in.
Pour some water into the bowl. Not too much, just about half way full.
Add ice to the mix. Make sure the ice is in small chunks.
Put the egg in the ice water.
