Also make sure you trust your children before letting them off the street, or out of your sight. Also, make sure they carry a functioning mobile phone with credit, just in case anything does happen.

Give your child a curfew, and punish them if they exceed it. This way that will learn it's importance.

Kidnappers will tend to think twice if they know you are carrying mace, but will reconsider a minimum of three to five times if they know you carry a gun for your personal protection.

• talk to strangers
• walk in dark alleys
• do the same thing everyday

Do:

• Hang with friends
• Wave to random people if someone is following you- they will wave back
• walk in an area that you know well
• change your schedule daily, or the way that you get to work, school, home
