Are we talking mobile phone? You could try taking the SIM card out of your broken phone and putting it your old one.
this may not always work but that's the first step you should try. Make sure your old one is charged up of course.
If it doesn't work, ring your provider and ask them if it's possible to use your SIM in another phone.
