The shops were almost empty at Christmas. Although parents made a great effort to produce a Christmas morning surprise all that children found perhaps was an orange, small present and a few sweets. This was because everything was still strictly rationed;and many of the sweets anyway had such a little flavoured eventhough their were bombs dropping,people screaming and building being destroyed decorations were still being put up in homes-that hadn't been bomed,underground stations and air raid shelters.
