Jesus's tomb was safely secured by a very large and heavy stone. The killers of Jesus wanted to secure the body of Jesus because they didn't want anyone to steal his body. ( this is the info I have gotten/ can remember from The Bible)

The gospels say that a round stone was rolled across the entrance to the tomb.

Scholars say that squared stones were used during the first half of the century, and that round stones only began to be used around 70 CE, meaning that the stone that sealed Jesus' tomb must really have been squared.

From what I understand and picture from reading the Bible his tomb was almost like a hollowed out cave. The protection that Jesus' body had for the time that he was in the tomb was a large rock/boulder that was rolled into place over the opening to the tomb, as well as a guard stationed outside the tomb because they were suspicious as to what Jesus' disciples would do. I think that this had to do with the knowledge that had spread of Jesus coming back from death 3 days after his death on the cross.

The story of the guards placed outside the tomb of Jesus is unique to Matthew's Gospel. The other gospels don't even mention guards; the disciples are free to just walk into the open tomb. Since the author of Matthew chose not to give them names, we will never know.
