in my opinion, he was a good leader because he made tobacco a big success, and helped the booming of the colony, so yeah, i think he was a good leader
No other colony was able to harm Jamestown. They also had a good water source/route. Jamestown can contribute most of their success to John Smith and John Rolphe. John Smith made sure everybody worked. John Rolphe started tobacco planting.
John Rolfe was the leader of the colony, and the husband of Pocahontas. Commonly (largely because of his memoirs and Disney) John Smith is confused with this, although it is unlikely that Smith ever knew Pocahontas. He was however a military Captain in the colony.
John Smith realized the colonies needed to concentrate on planting and raising crops instead of hopelessly searching for gold. Under his strict law, colonists would not receive food unless they worked. He made an agreement with Chief Powhatan so the chief would supply corn for the colonists.
She helped them settle in and saved their leader, John Smith, from certain death. Twice! Though some question his credibility, many believe that what he said was true. She also established good trade centers for the pilgrims andthe Powatans.
The Relationship Between the Settlers at Jamestown and the PowhatansJohn Smith was captured and he was going to be killed, but the native princess, Pocahontas, save him. After a while, John Rolfe, the new leader, married Pocahontas and grew crops. Growing more crops mean clearing more land. Then, the natives got irritated because there land for hunting and growing were owned by other people so they had a fight with the English. After the fight, King James I made Virginia a royal colony.by Jennifer Hsia

The best mayor was John Smith. At least that's how i learned it the was good friends with pochahontas and she told him when her tribe was mad at the colonists. John Smith also never ate any of the colonists food when they really needed it unlike another mayor before John Smith.
