How was the life of the migrant workers in The Grapes of Wrath?
Their lives were miserable; most of them lived in their cars,
and there was a serious supply-demand issue. The farm/orchard
owners exploited their desperate need for work by mass-advertising
jobs, offering little pay, turning away the thousands of migrant
workers who showed up. Entire families would roam the countryside
starving and seeking work for a few dollars for the week.
