Black people in the 1950s faced widespread racial discrimination and segregation in the United States. They were subjected to Jim Crow laws that enforced racial segregation, including separate schools, transportation, and public facilities. They also experienced limited access to voting rights and employment opportunities and were frequently targeted by acts of racial violence and intimidation. The Civil Rights Movement emerged during this time as a response to these injustices.
