Freedom Summer was a 1964 campaign in Mississippi to register as many African American voters as possible. Freedom Rides or Riders were Civil Rights Activists who rode buses into the segregated south speaking out against and defying Jim Crow laws. Both ideals were all about empowering blacks and seeking racial equality.
Both the Freedom Rides and Freedom Summer were civil rights campaigns organized during the 1960s to fight against racial segregation and voting discrimination. They aimed to challenge and dismantle Jim Crow laws in the South, and were characterized by nonviolent protests and direct action. While the Freedom Rides focused on desegregating interstate transportation, Freedom Summer focused on registering African American voters and establishing Freedom Schools. Both initiatives faced significant violence and resistance from white supremacists.
The result of Freedom Rides was that after a struggle, the laws of transport segregation were changed.
Sit ins and Freedom Rides were advocated mostly in the South. Georgia and Tennessee are two states that were notoriously known for their sit ins and Freedom Rides.
