How would a hypothetical third world war play out?

According to a recent American study, it is expected that a third world war would a nuclear war that would result in:

• a long winter for around 20 years
• destroying the forests
• lack of food for billions of people
• destroying 50 % of the Ozone layer

Complete destruction. Once the launch of one nuclear weapon happens more will result and because of the dust and debris in the atmosphere the earth will enter a phase of nuclear winter because the sun will be blocked. Those that have survived the initial nuclear attacks will have radiation sickness, lack of food (crops will be gone because of the conditions and frozen land), water will be bad due to radiation and pollution, medical care could be hard to find, finding a warm place to live will be hard because all modern services like gas, power, phones will be gone. Man will loose any progress he has made towards a better future.
