First answer this question, have they ever dealt with suiciadle thoughts? Painful to answer, yes. You child my be facing through ruff times and you may not know it. When I was young, my mother tried to reinforce the idea, that no one was perfect, and that I must have friends, and ect. That didnt get me anywhere. Then my mother started volenteering at schools, and after school activities. It helped myself feel, more comfortable, around other students, and stuff. Soon, I began to make friends, get great grades at high standards. Maybe your child wont have great grades or already do. But dont repeatedly tell them to try harder and get out there. Reinforce, that maybe you went through this too, the shy stage. Its absolutly normal. Also maybe meet up with your friends that have kids or other family members, such as cousins. This will help them get used to the word "friend" instead of meeting a large amount of students like being on a stage. Help them understan that things fall apart, so better things fall together. Understand the meaning of the phrase, and they will be alright. =]
