Use any acid. HCl, HBr, HX.

Zn + HX ==> ZnX + H2.

The zinc forms a salt with the acid by getting oxidized. Hydrogen gas is released.

With hydrochloric acid, the reaction is as follows:

Zn + HCl ==> ZnCl2 + H2
