The formula for Hydrochloric acid is HClO3

The reason for this answer is because the rule states that when there is an IC ending we change it to ATE. The ATE ending for the oxyanion is ClO3. which is the chlorate ion.

If it was Hydrochlorous acid then the formula would be HClO2. Because the OUS changes to ITE, which is the chlorite ion
