I have not checked the codes on my 99 trans am but the service engine light is on but the temperature gage is not reading any temperature anyone know why this might be happening?

The service engine light is on because the computer has "stored a code", that your are supposed to read, using a code reader. Use a code reader and you'll know for certain why the light is on. You can borrow, rent or buy a code scanner from most auto parts retailers. many will even scan the code for you.
