The ultrasound doesnt give you the date. It is estimated by the days you give to the doctors to help, narrow down the date. The first day of your last period and how long you've missed help them in determining your conception date. The picture shows them an image of a fetus and they use that picture to say at what developmental stage the baby is in. Anything is possible.

AnswerContrary to the opinion above, the ultaasound does give you an approximate date of conception. By comparing the results of millions of ultrasounds physicians can calculate the age of the fetus based on head diameter, bone length, and other measurements on the fetus. They are usually accurate to within two weeks of when you are due to deliver. Since some women have irregular periods, it is not always possible to calculate the date based on the first day of the last period. Trust the ultrasound!

ANSWER

I just wanted to add to the above answer. A patient's Last mentrual period is accurate if the patient has a regular mestrual cycle, but this is not the case for many women. Therefore, it is not the most accurate source for fetal age. Ultrasound is the most accurate dating tool for fetal age. The measurement of the embryo (crown rump length) up to 12 weeks gestation is the most accurate. The rate of growth of a fetus will be based on that early measurement for the remainder of the pregnancy. It allows physicians to monitor the growth of the fetus which in turn gives them an estimated due date as well as help them diagnose growth abnormalities such as IUGR (Intrauteriune growth restriction).

When your pregnant how can you tell how far along you are?

When you go to the doctor, he will be able to help you figure out when your last period is. They are also able to determine when your due date is by the ultrasound and by feeling around.

Is it possible not to detect a 3 month pregnancy on ultrasound?

It is absolutely impossible not to see SOMETHING on an ultrasound at 3 months pregnant. Pregnancies are most commonly confirmed without question at around 8 weeks pregnant. So, given the ultrasound is done by a qualified technician, there is no way you could miss a pregnancy that is 3 months along.

How can you know the horse is pregnant?

Ultrasound, palpation, hormone assay, and if she's far enough along she'll look pregnant.

How far along in pregnancy are you after your first missed period?

Well, that is something that an ultrasound will have to determine. The theory is that you are pregnant (conception has occurred) sometime after your last period. Conception doesn't necessarily occur the moment that the man ejaculates his sperm into the vagina. So, yes, you did become pregnant somewhere between when you had sex after your last period, but before you realized that you were late in getting your period. This has to be discovered by the ultrasound, to determine the EDD (estimated due date).

What numbers on ultrasound tells how many weeks pregnant you are?

Most ultrasound machines don't list how far along you are on the pictures that are printed. The technician that is running the machine can have the computer calculate the age of the fetus using measurements.

You are pregnant in 10 weeks your doctor told you that your baby is a girls that possible to determine the sex of a baby at this stage of pregnancy?

It is not possible to determine the sex by ultrasound until about 19 weeks along. If you do an amniocentesis, you can normally find out around 12 weeks.

If you are pregnant and your blood work says you are further along than your ultrasound which one is more accurate?

Blood work cannot tell you how far along you are as the levels vary so much from pregnancy to pregnancy, go with the ultrasound.

I am definetly pregnant but I haven't had a period due to birth-control How can I tell how far I am?

First of all, you shouldn't be taking birth control while you are pregnant. Stop immediately if you still are taking the pill. You can tell how far along you are by A) your first ultrasound or B) the first day of your last period (before pregnancy) is considered week one (even though you are not technically pregnant at this point) so by the time you actually conceive, you should be about two weeks along.

Think Im 6 weeks pregnant but ultrasound says 4 weeks Can this be?

I was told the same thing. Based on my lmp I am 6 weeks but I had an ultrasound done 2 days ago that said I was 4 weeks. I wonder if I am 4 weeks along because that is the time of conception since you dont get pregnant the day of your period. It is usually two weeks later when you ovulate. Let me know if you have heard anything

If you went into the ultrasound and they said you were 7 weeks and 5 days pregnant according to babies growth you went to the midwife and she said you were 7 weeks gestation what does that mean?

Gestation is the same as saying pregnant. So when your midwife says that you are at 7 weeks gestation, she is saying you are 7 weeks pregnant. It is most accurate to go from the first day of your last period to figure out how far along you are because babies grow at different paces in the womb and if your baby is growing a little faster at first, the ultrasound may show it as being further along than it really is. Your midwife is probably getting your due date using the last period method, so I would go with her and say that you are 7 weeks pregnant.

How far along are you if you had a positive HPT then got a heavy period and then had two negative blood tests and missed your period this month and had two positive HPTs?

Around 4 weeks gestation but an ultrasound scan would tell you for sure. It does sound as though you had a very early miscarriage (at the time of your period) then got pregnant the next month. Good luck

How far along pregnant do you have to be for you to have a miscarriage?

You can miscarry before you even know your pregnant and just think it's a late period
