When an empty plastic bottle is left open to the atmosphere the air pressure outside and inside the bottle are in equilibrium (does not always mean they are equal, but in this case they are equal). This means that whatever force exerted by the atmosphere on the outside of the bottle is balanced by a force from the inside of the bottle. When one sucks the air out of the bottle one removes the source of pressure and forces within the bottle. The pressure differential between air outside and inside bottle is enough to cause the bottle to collapse.

Note that this will not happen so easily with glass bottles because even when one tries to suck all the air out of them, they also experience a tendency to collapse, but their structure is strong enough to withstand the pressure differences.

Air pressure outside the can is pushing inward, no air inside the can, so there is no force pushing outward. If the can is strong enough the walls will withstand the pressure, if not the can collapses.

it is due to pressure is less inside the can comparing in the outside of the can.

When the air is vacumed out of the can the pressure on the outside becomes greater, therefore cousing the can to collapse.

Because the pressure outside the bottle is higher than the inside

when it gets sucked molecules go out of the can and since theres not enough particles to support the wall it just collapses/falls down

When the air pressure inside the bottle is less that that outside, it will collaspse.

What happens if you take all the air out of bottle?

It will become vacuum sealed, and opening the bottle will cause a sudden release of low pressure, where higher pressure air from it's surroundings is 'sucked' into the bottle, equalizing the pressure.

What happens when the air in a closed bottle is heated?

Why does an empty sealed bottle collapse with altitude?

Actually, an empty sealed bottle should expand slightly as altitude increases. At the altitude where the bottle is sealed, the air pressure outside the bottle is equal to the air pressure inside the bottle. When the bottle is transported to a higher altitude, the air pressure inside the bottle is greater than the air pressure outside the bottle (In other words: There are more air molecules per unit volume inside the bottle than outside). The increased air pressure inside the bottle relative to the outside pressure causes the bottle to expand slightly. An empty bottle would not collapse as altitude increases.

What happens when you put a plastic bottle of water into the freezer?

The water will turn to Ice. The act of freezing the water causes it to expand in volume. As a result the plastic bottle will swell and deform slightly but it will not burst or break. A glass bottle When we put a plastic bottle in the freezer it contracts, whereas when we put water it dilates. So while the plastic bottle contracts and the water dilates so the bottle eventually contracts.

Why do water droplets form outside the bottle?

Condensation - The surface of the bottle and the air just above it will be cool enough to allow condensation of the water vapor in the air onto the bottle's surface.

What will happen to the bottle if air is being sucked out?

It will implode.

Can you get a raw egg sucked into a bottle?

Yes, place a flame (match, candle, etc) inside the bottle, then quickly place an egg on top. As the air in the bottle burns, the pressure will drop and the egg will be sucked into the bottle.

What will happen to the bottle if the air pressure inside the bottle sucked out?

With less gas inside the bottle, it will weigh less. But not by very much, for the mass of the volume of air is slight. If he bottle is evacuated, then its shape will change slightly - but once again, a small amount. If the bottle is fragile, it may collapse. This would be expected for a plastic bottle, such as a soft drink bottle.

What ketchup sucked a tomato into the bottle?

Hunt's Ketchup

Why is the univervs being crushed under the vacuum like when you drink out of a bottle it goes a funny shape why isn't that happening to the universe?

When you suck the air out of a bottle, it collapses because the air all around it is pressing on it from the outside. There's nothing all around the universe to press on it from the outside.

Why does the balloon go inside the bottle when you light a piece of paper on fire?

The oxygen is taken out of the bottle so it gets sucked in.

How do you get an egg into milkbottle?

MATERIALS NEEDED: glass bottle with a long, narrow neck (an apple cider jug works well), boiled egg, matches. PROCESS: Put the empty bottle on a table, Peel the boiled egg, Light a match and drop it into the bottle. Repeat about three or four times, Quickly put the egg over the mouth of the bottle. EXPLANATION: The lit match heats the air inside the bottle. When air is heated it expands and takes up more room. As the heated air expands, some of it escapes out of the bottle. When the matches go out, the air inside the bottle cools and contracts, which takes up less room. This creates a lower pressure inside the bottle than outside the bottle. The greater pressure outside the bottle forces the egg to get sucked into the bottle.
