If you're on birth control and you just shorten the weeks to six days not using the last the 7th pill in each week is it harmful?

The pills are designed to be taken as prescribed. To do otherwise risks that you will get pregnant (you are shorting yourself on the amount of hormone you are taking and messing up the menstrual cycle) or other problems. Why not just take the whole prescription??
