Kinetic (moving) Energy is a product of half the Mass times Velocity Squared so if the velocity is doubled the K.E goes up four times(2 squared) If velocity is tripled the K.E. goes up nine times (3 squared). If velocity is increased by 1.5 times the K.E. goes up by 1.5*1.5=2.25 times.

If you were to double the speed of an object, its kinetic energy would be multiplied by a factor of four. The definition of kinetic energy is 1 one half mass times velocity2. Since the velocity is squared, it will be mulitiplied by a factor of 4. Therefore, the entire kinetic energy will be multiplied by a factor of 4.

It is multiplied times four. This is the square law. *k.e.=(1/2)mv^2* therefore 2 times the velocity with the same mass will give you 4 times the original energy.

e.x.
orginal:
(1/2)100kg(4m/s)^2
50kg(16m^2/s^2)
800 kgm^2/s^2

double the velocity of 4m/s=8m/s
(1/2)100kg(8m/s)^2
50kg(64m^2/s^2)
3200 kgm^2/s^2

3200/800=4
It will always be the square of the factor you change the velocity by.

The formula for kinetic energy at non-relativistic velocities is KE=0.5mv^2. Therefore when velocity increases from v to 2v, KE increases by a factor of 4.
