Upon 2nd Spanish Republic being proclaimed on 14th April 1931 King Alfonso 13th fled and left Spain - but did not abdicate the throne until 15th January 1941 when he abdicated his rights to the Spanish throne in favour of his fourth and second surviving son Juan [the father of the current king Juan Carlos].
