As a fireman I have found that a lot of small children are scared by firefighters. We wear a lot of strange looking gear that hides our faces giving us the appearance of aliens or monsters.

It is ironic because firemen are trained to help and save people from fires, not to harm them. The fear may stem from the loud noises, sudden appearances, or association with dangerous situations, even though their primary goal is to protect and serve the community.
