You can't really. Most of the mysteries raised in the book were never solved in the series. The autobiography is said to give a lot of detail though so I would suggest that.

No, just unlockables, as far as I know. You must find all the puzzle pieces and VFD packages. Try looking at select walkthroughs to help you locate these in each level.
In the 6th book, The Ersatz Elevator, Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire find out that the initials VFD stands for Very Fancy Dolls. But if you read the book you will find out why do they have Very Fancy Dolls included in the story. but in the 7th book they say that VFD means village of fowl devotees and i do read the book but i am only on the 8th book and it said something else about VFD so i don't think that answer is the right one but you are right about that one Actually even after the final installment, VFD is never given a clear name. The terms "Very Fancy Doilies" , "Village of Fowl Devotees" , "Volunteers Fighting Disease", "Valley of Four Drafts","Volunteers Fighting Disease", and others are just used to give a hint of an association to the actual VFD .
It's called His "common place book" he didn't get it till he met Duncan Quimire. Most membe rs of VFD keep a common place book
