Diet is critical to anyone with Diabetes. Taking insulin allows the person to control their blood sugar but if they are overloading their body with foods that are high in sugar and carbohydrates they are going to have a very difficult time maintaining a proper blood sugar level even with the insulin.
Diabetes is when your body does not produce the hormone insulin. So with someone with type 1 diabetes they have to do daily insulin injections. So the job of insulin is to level out your blood sugar level so yes the hormone insulin is used to treat diabetes.

Ask your local endocrinologist for how to specifically treat diabetes and how to count out your personal insulin-to-carb ratio.

I'm not as familiarly with type two diabetes, which is where you are unhealthy/over weight. i believe there are pills to help control it but im not certain.
