Ok first you must have it so it effects what ever army you are after (i.e 1 for player 1, 2 for player 2,etc.. 0 is for Gaia). Then on the tech drop down bar select the upgrade you are after, you can do this for several different troops on the same trigger. For it to activate make sure that it is set to always on the conditions tab.

Originallly there was a download, but since Aom is kind of ancient, many of the links to the editor download (which I believe you experienced too) are unavailable. You can probably try posting in different fan sites and see what comes up. But you probably won't get anywhere. Sorry :-(

You mean a lever or a trigger? a lever is a doodad and you can build it from the doodad builder in map editor. same with the trigger but the trigger isn't a doodad and you need to set it in the trigger editor
There are two ways to create triggers:Use the trigger editor. This is generally the easier path because the editor handles all the coding for you and a lot can be done with just the trigger editor in the hands a low to medium level user. However, the draw back to using the trigger editor is that you can't control the "finer" details of your code (See 2).Code it yourself and paste it into the trigger editor. This has a slightly steeper learning curve but it will allow you to control your own variables and events within the trigger and in some cases will allow you to create more complex triggers than the trigger editor can handle. In addition, it is much easier to simply type what you want than spending a lot of time looking through the GUI (Graphic User Interface) for the specific action, condition or event that you need.
In order to modify the starting gold for a map, you have to go to the trigger editor, create a new trigger, as follows Event - Map initialization Condition - N/A Action - Player, Add #### Gold to Player#
If you haven't already figured out, it's in the content section of the profile editor.
