There is no such thing as a "prndl" switch.
In European racing and some American series, when you win a race you stand on a podium. When you win a NASCAR race you stand on the roof of your car.
American Stock Car Racing is the only thing related to an automobile that I know of.
If the car is not in park, it wont release the key. If it is in park, there is a little switch underneath the prndl indicator that is bad, causing the car to not release your key.
Low. It's used to climb steep hills or such.

There are several things that can cause your 2006 VW Jetta not to crank over or start. The flashing of the PRNDL display would indicate the antitheft system has been activated.
Not sure about a switch, but there is a fuse for it in the fuse box.
