The finches were different species that shared a common ancestor
Darwin called his theory......,The Theory Of Evolution By Means Of Natural Selection.
Aristotle came up with the first theory about life on Earth and he believed that species were fixed creations arranged by their complexity, and those ideas alone lasted for 2000 years. Lamarck later discover that change occurs over a long period of time and he discovered that in the early 1800s. Finally, in 1859, Darwin published his book about his theory of evolution (On the Origin of Species by Natural Selection.) This encompassed his findings from his voyage on the HMS Beagle in 1831-36 on divergent evolution of finches on Galapagos Island and also his research in Australia.
Mary Ann Mantel discovered, or was believed to find the first dinosaur fossil in the 1800s. She found a tooth in apile of gravel by the side of the road, while her husband was on a house call. Her husband studied the tooth and was later found out it belonged to a dinosaur, or back then a giant herbivorous reptile.

i believe he was first to discover it, with his son. they published a book in the 1800s on it.
Species originate through adaptation by natural selection. Strange thing really, Darwin didn't even believe in evolution.

Optical illusions are naturally found in nature, but were not studied until 450 BC in Rome. Roman thinkers correctly surmised that people's senses could play tricks on them. Optical illusions were not studied in depth until the 1800s.

Democritus did not discover the electron, He was a Greek philosopher who was the first to hypothesize the atom. There was much experimentation with the property of electricity (dating back to the early Greeks), but the particle was not discovered until the 1800s by a number of German physicists. Research the electron for a more detailed explanation.
As the mid-1800s approached, the idea of evolution posed a serious challenge to the then-popular view that species were unchanging fixtures of nature. This concept, called the Fixity of Species, was a perspective that European zoologists and botanists adopted as part of their culture, to reflect Western religion and the story of creation as laid out in the Bible
