The Irish immigrated in the early 1800s for the same reason they came as colonists in the 1700s: to buy land, and to have adventure. My ggg-grandfather and his brother bought a few hundred acres in Erie PA in 1820, and added to it over the years. The family stayed in the region for over a century. Maybe some are still there! This is a typical story.
