The Irish migrated for many of the same reasons other peoples did. Religious freedom, fleeing other oppression, for adventure, a better life, because they were criminals and to make a better living. They also had a blight wipe out their crops in the late 1840s called the Potato Famine that encouraged them to find a better place to live.
