Our solar system is located in the thin disk of the Milky Way.
The Milky Way galaxy is a spiral shaped disk about 100,000 light year in diameter and between 650 and 1,300 light years thick. It contains around 200 -> 400 billion stars. Our solar system is at the edge of one of the spiral arms. Estimated between 26,000 & 32,000 light years from the center of the galaxy. Our Solar System is in the Orion Arm of the Milky Way Galaxy. See related link for a pictorial.
The stellar disk of the Milky Way galaxy is approximately 100,000 light years in diameter, and is believed to be, on average, about 1,000 light years thick. It is estimated to contain at least 200 billion stars and possibly up to 400 billion stars, the exact figure depending on the number of very low mass stars, which is highly uncertain. Extending beyond the stellar disk is a much thicker disk of gas. Recent observations indicate that the gaseous disk of the Milky Way has a thickness of around 12,000 light years ---twice the previously accepted value. The Sun (and therefore the Earth and Solar System) may be found close to the inner rim of the Galaxy's Orion Arm, in the Local Fluff inside the Local Bubble, and in the Gould Belt, at a distance of ~25,000 light years from the Galactic Center. So a rough estimate, because there is no real defined outer edge, puts our solar system about 25 thousand light years from the edge of the Milky Way Galaxy. [See Link] for pictorial impression of our location in the Milky Way.
It caused the solar system to form in the shape of a disk.
The motions of the Sun and the planets reflect to disk shape of the solar nebula because they follow the same rotation as this disk shape. The rotation of the Sun and the planets is not a perfect circle.
When the moon's disk completely covers the sun you have a solar eclipse.

The Sun is about 27,000 light years from the center of the Milky Way, roughly 2/3rds the way out from the center to the edge of the galactic disk.
The Milky Way, sometimes called simply the Galaxy, is the galaxy in which the Solar System is located. It is a barred spiral galaxy that is part of the Local Group of galaxies. It is one of billions of galaxies in the observable universe. See link for more information
It is the SOLAR SYSTEM where the Earth is part of it( A Solar System Consists of Planets, Moon, Stars like SUN, Asteroids, Meteors, Comets and sometimes Black Hole).Above the surface of the Milky Way, Millions and Billions of Cluster of Stars are Scattered around it. A Cluster of Stars are made up of Looking-Young Stars but, They are actually old since the Milky Way was formed around 12 Billion Yrs. old.
The Earth is one of the planets in the Solar system, (the third from the Sun), which is one of the stars in the Milky Way Galaxy. This is a barred galaxy, with a central core of stars, and an extended disk continuing farther out in space. The Solar system is near the junction of these two components.

It is represented as a disk, but is really a sphere.

The Milky Way galaxy is about 100,000 light-years across. Our system orbits the center of the Milkey Way, about 26,000 light-years away from it. So we are about half-way out, but still far from the center. We are also approximately near the center of the disk from top to bottom.
Solar system
Actually no, because a solar system is just a place for planets to be there. Solar system is just like space.
Our solar system is located inside the Milky Way galaxy about midway between the galaxy's edge and its center.our solar system is in one of the spiral arms of our galaxy. This is where most healthy young stars are, as opposed to the aging red giants nearer to the dense core of the Milky Way Galaxy. Nothing is particularly special about our position in space, besides the fact that it is an area of new star formation.if you want a picture then see the related link.
