Alaska is farthest east and west is due to the fact that the Aleutian Islands cross the 180° meridian of longitude, placing some of the islands actually in the Eastern Hemisphere and thus degrees east of Greenwich (and the Prime Meridian).
Alaska is the westernmost AND the easternmost U.S. state. Most of Alaska is in the Western Hemisphere. The Aleutian Islands are part of Alaska. The 180th meridian (the International Date Line) crosses the Aleutian Islands making Alaska the westernmost U.S. state in the Western Hemisphere. Part of Alaska's Aleutian Islands are on the other side of the 180th meridian (the International Date Line). Therefore that part of Alaska is in the Eastern Hemisphere and makes Alaska also the easternmost U.S. state.
the Hawaiian islands extend as for west as the 161st degree latitude from the prime meridian. continental Alaska extends to the 167th degree latitude west. the Aleutian islands, part of Alaska, extend past the 180th degree of latitude, called the international date line, and are as far "west" as New Zealand
Yes
Most Eastern - Alaska Most Western - Alaska Alaska crosses 180˚ longitude, making it a part of the Eastern Hemisphere. This action makes Alaska the most eastern state in the US by a long shot. Alaska is also obviously the most western state.
Western is Alaska and eastern is Maine
Believe it or not it is Alaska. Alaska is the most northern, most eastern, and most western state. Hawaii is the most southern. Alaska divides the eastern and western hemisphere at the International Dateline or End Meridian (180 degrees longitude), making it qualify for east and west. The Prime meridiam (0 degrees longitude) is located in Greenwich England.
Alaska, which also has the eastern most point
Alaska
Alaska is the most northern state. Hawaii is the most southern state. Since Alaska's Aleutian Islands lie across the 180th Meridian they lie in both the Eastern and Western Hemispheres. That makes Alaska both the most eastern and most western state also. The International Dateline bends around the Aeulitians, the 180th Meridian does not.
Northern: Maine Eastern: Maine Southern: Florida Western: Alaska
The most easterly point of the contiguous United States is West Quoddy Head in Maine. If we include the state of Alaska, then the most easterly point is the Aleutian Islands.
Alaska. We are the Northern-most, Eastern-most, and Western-most State in the Union. Edit by other member: no, it is not Alaska. First of all, Alaska is not in the continental US and second of all it is also not the eastern most state in the union. The actual westernmost point is debatable: Cape Mendocino in California or western Washington.
Almost all of the USA is in the western hemisphere, with just a small fraction of the state of Alaska in the eastern one.
Alaska does NOT have States, it IS a State.
Believe it or not, Alaska is actually the most northeastern state in addition to being the most northwestern, northern, eastern, and western. This is all because Alaska crosses the International Dateline (180˚), making it a part of the Eastern Hemisphere. Despite this, Maine is typically thought to be the northeastern-most state.
