Is Baytown University real or fake?

It appears to be real in the sense that it exists. And they certainly have a flashy website.

However, they're not accredited by anybody that matters. If you search for "Baytown University" on the CHEA (Council for Higher Education Accreditation) website, they don't show up. Big red flag.

Now, not all schools are accredited, and there are legitimate reasons certain types of school might choose not to seek accreditation. However, such schools usually explain up front why they've chosen not to be accredited, instead of hiding behind a "fake" accreditation. Baytown claims to be accredited by an organization called ABOET, saying that it's "global". This is big red flag #2: as a rule of thumb, no legitimate accrediting organization claims to be "global," and ABOET is clearly not "global" in the sense of actually bothering to get recognized by the main accrediting clearinghouse in the country Baytown is based in (the aforementioned CHEA).

My verdict overall: they're probably real enough to take your money. They're almost certainly fake as far as anyone accepting their degrees as more than poor-quality toilet paper, though.

Baytown University claims accreditation from the European Accreditation Board for Online Education, Association for Accreditation of Business Schools & Programs, International Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology Education, Global Accreditation Board For Distance Education, and the Arab Accreditation Council. NONE of these bodies are approved by CHEA or the U.S. Dept. of Education.
