It is only coated with silver. The metal used is zinc or other alloy. If you go to the store and ask or read on the site they will tell you is dipped twice in molten silver and then coated into a solution that will prevent from tarnishing.
How much real silver is in it? Is anybodies guess... the sterling silver is .925 so you know you got 90% silver and the rest is alloy but with the silver coating is a lot less and if anybody knows how much please post it.
