It is a CD, but instead of having stand CDA (CD audio) files on it, the disc has MP3 files on it. It wont play on CD players that only play CDA, but it should play on any CD player that supports MP3 decoding.
Define 'better' ;)
Audio CDs store music (or speech, etc) as a WAV file.
MP3 is a 'lossy' compression method, it reduces the size of the WAV file by data compression, and reduces the filesize by discarding data.
You can always rip audio WAV files to MP3, but if you convert from MP3 to WAV there is always some data lost compared to the original WAV, so IMO CD is better.
By the way, this is the reason why 'lossless' audio compression was created (e.g. flac, wavpack, ape). These codecs do not compress the files as much as MP3, but all the original data is still present, so there is no loss of quality.
No. CDs use a .cda format, not mp3.
you can rip the CD and convert to mp3 format.
Some "burned" CD's are in the MP3 format, yes. MP3 files can also be on iPod's and other sound reproducing equipment. So ... MP3 is not the same thing (in all cases) as burned CD.
