As I understand it, a freewheeling engine, such as the 2.3 liter Ford is an overhead cam engine that will not crash the valves if the timing belt breaks.
A 350 Chevy uses a timing chain since the cam is in the block. If the timing chain breaks on that, you're out of luck.
