As authentic Chinese man, I think the one-child policy taken by the Chinese Central Government has more advantages than disadvantages, though it's not carried out completed in some rural areas of China.
I have to admit that the policy do help China a lot both in economy development and social development.

∙ 15y agoThe one child policy is morally questionable put it is somewhat practically relevant. The one child policy basically came into place when the population was expanding beyond it means. It helped control a huge population boom and thus maintain stability. However due to the one child policy there are a lot of unwanted side effects, culturally and demographically. For example parents prefer having a male child thus large amount of female foetuses are aborted and this has created a huge gap between the male female ratio with some studies saying there will be 20 million less women in China. One can argue that during desperate times the one child policy seemed like a viable option and thus was necessary. However you can also say that it is both morally and socially damaging with long-term effects.
Thus the one child policy is wrong but not quite:).

∙ 13y agoJust like other subjects, the One-Child policy has pros and cons. The debate is whether or not the One-Child Policy is the best choice made by the Chinese government.
It's so controversial because the two sides of whether it is good or bad can't defeat each other. I myself can't decide whether this policy is for the best or is it not the smartest choice.
The side that states the One-Child Policy is good says that this is the most effective way to fix this problem as soon as possible. And I believe this is correct. I think the government would like to get this off their chest as soon as they can.
The bad effect is that the public is not entirely content about this whole policy. The only similar policy to the One-Child Policy is a two-child policy applicable in some parts of India. And the government is also making a decision that should be made only by the parents.
