EG is the EternaGold brand from QVC. It is genuine gold.
"EternaGold is a premium brand of 14K gold sold on-air and on-line by QVC. It has different properties than "regular" 14K gold. It is more durable, scratch resistant and dent resistant." That is the stock answer from QVC. My own experiences with it have shown that not to be the case. After attempting to scrap a broken EternaGold necklace I was amazed to discover that my scrap person wanted nothing to do with it. He demonstrated to me that it fails the magnet test, (the first test to determine if a gold looking object is in fact gold; traditional 14K gold is non-magnetic.) It did, however, pass the acid test so he offered to take it to his smelter to determine what it is actually composed of. One week later he called back to inform me that while there is some gold content in EternaGold it is primarily copper and tin and the gold content of that necklace was nowhere near the 58.5% that would justify the 14K mark it bears.
The EG mark stamped on jewelry is the EternaGold® brand. EternaGold® jewelry is virtually the world's strongest, most scratch-resistant type of 14K gold. The company is based in Tamarac, Florida.
(((Sorry; to make it simpler to follow, I deleted the original answer by the first poster since they didn't give any detailed info & sheepishly said they are almost certain it is real gold))) Yes, EternaGold is real gold....it is a brand name of gold jewelry manufactured by Leach& Garner in Massachusetts. You can purchase items nowadays through tv retailer QVC. EternaGold items are usually in 14kt yellow gold. The name is to signify that their gold is durable, and will stand up to normal life (aka beating up your jewelry) much better than most gold jewelry out there in the retail world. EternaGold is made up of their proprietary gold alloy formula that makes its color unique (closer to 18kt yellow color), its strength excellent (bracelets & earrings resist most dents), and makes it essentially hypoallergenic to most people because their alloys do not include any nickel. (BTW, I am a jeweler)
I called QVC and they told me to ship my ring for repairs to: ETERNAGOLD PO BOX 209004 TAMARAC, FL 33320 They gave me a phone number to call Eternagold (1-800-648-4768), however every time I called the line was busy. I hope this is some help to everyone who has purchased Eternagold jewelery.
I want to know the e-mail address for Eterna Gold Jewelry. I have to ask how can I send my defective bangle that I purchased at QVC for repair. I don't have the proof of purchase cause I bought this since 1990's.
