Hyuuga Hinata from the series Naruto is indeed a shy girl. There are many causes of this.
One: Her father constantly shunned her for being "weak," claiming she was weaker than her little sister hanabi.
Two: Her mother died when she was very young, traumatizing her.
Three: She was kidnapped by ninja at a young age also, and this led to her uncle's sacrificing his life in trade of hers. This leads also to the conflict between her and her cousin Neji, whose father was the uncle who died to save her.
Four: Her dwindling self-confidence makes her nervous to speak her mind.
Five: Her crush on the protagonist Uzumaki Naruto makes her embarrased and fidgety around him; in Naruto: Shippuden, she seems fine when talking to her teammates Kiba and shino, but faints of embarrasment when confronted by Naruto.
However, despite her shyness, she HAS confessed her love to Naruto. His feelings towards her are as of yet unknown.
