Constructing the ark, as described in The Bible, would probably not have been impossible, although difficult. A Flood that covered the whole earth and the mountains would be impossible - there is just not that much water. And finding two of every species, large and small, then fitting them into such a small boat would be impossible. What is more possible is that the legend of a great Flood was a folk memory of the inundation of the Black Sea in 5200 BCE, a view held by some scholars.
