Northwestern Theological Seminary is an online Christian seminary program offering "theologically accredited degrees through full online programs." Their site claims that their program is "conservative, evangelical, and non-denominational", and a FAQ states that they are "absolutely not" affiliated with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but rather with the Worldwide Church of Jesus Christ, a branch of Christian Alliance Ministries. This seminary and the affiliated church and ministries teach many things that are contrary to Mormon doctrines and do not seem to have a favorable view of Mormonism. Here is their official website: Northwestern Theological Seminary
Northwestern is not in any way affiliated with or connected to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called the "Mormon" church). Mormons have an all lay clergy - meaning they do not require (or even offer) seminary degrees or theological education to preach or lead a congregation. (These responsibilities are actually rotated among all members rather than having a pastor run the church and preach every week.) Mormons do have seminaries, but they are actually a scripture-study program for high school students, most of whom are Mormon kids considering serving as missionaries after graduation. Mormon seminary could be compared to a Jewish Hebrew School or Catholic CCD. Mormon seminaries are optional and are just meant to bolster the faith and religious understanding of teens, not to qualify anyone for ministry. Most seminary teachers outside of the highly Mormon populations in the west are entirely volunteer and they receive no compensation, salary, or retirement benefits. They serve as seminary teachers as a church calling, just like being a Sunday School teacher. In places with high Mormon populations (mostly Utah), seminary is a part of the school day, and being a seminary teacher is a paid full-time job. Some seminary teachers make more than others, based on their education and experience. As with most jobs, the retirement benefits vary based on how long you have been in your position.
