Russia is a democratic country of sorts. It is no longer a communist country, meaning it is no longer a country controlled by the Communist Party. Russia, never was a communist country as Karl Marx described communism. In fact, there has never been a true Marxian communist country.

There can be no such thing as a Communist country. Communism means a classless stateless society based on production for us, and will have to exist at a global level. Russia used to be state capitalist, and is now private capitalist.

Communism fell gradually from the mid 1980's to early 1990's.
In 1991 the people of Russia voted their communist government out of existence.

Because it brought on Communism in Russia. Also China was influenced by Russia to be communist as well.
Communism didn't last in Russia because Stalin had a warped idea of communism. It failed because it never was true communism, but was always corrupted. I believe it was not communism in the USSR, but more of a deadly mix of Socialism and Totalitarianism.
Communism (a classless stateless society) will have to be worldwide, with no nations or borders. What was established in Russia in 1917 was state capitalism.
