Not really. Severus Snape joined the Death Eaters out of school. When he learned that Voldemort was going to kill the only woman he ever loved, Lily (Evans) Potter, he changed sides.
Snape promised Dumbledore that he would convince Voldemort he was spying on the Order of the Phoenix for the Death Eaters. Really, he was spying on the Death Eaters for the Order and only passing selected information to the Death Eaters.
