Visual studio is a collection of different language compiler, whereas visual basic is just a single language.
Visual studio express edition can be downloaded from www.microsoft.com/express A visual basic programmer uses visual studio to write and compile visual basic programs.

The current public version is Visual Studio 2010 (FREE in Express edition) and the current BETA version for Windows 8 is Visual Studio 2011 (Only available to Microsoft developers as of 9/20/2011)
Visual Basic: One of the available languages to program in for PC developers. Visual Basic is a very high-level language and is sometimes referred to as VB or VB.NET... this is my personal favorite language

Unfortunately, you can not use Visual Studio to edit Java. Visual Studio can be used to program: Visual Basic C# C++ ASP.NET Anyways to program Java you can use other programs as Eclipse for Java Developers

The latest version of Visual Studio is Visual Studio 2008 (v9.0).
Once you have the Visual Studio program open, go to File->New Project and select the language you want to write your program in. If one or more languages do not appear, you probably didn't choose to have them installed when you installed Visual Studio.

If you want to run visual basic 6.0 on vista, forget about it,now u can run visual basic.net on vista for this u have to buy visual studio 2008 it runs well on vista and u can develop ur applicantin with ease and efficiency.
Studio consists of C#, VisualJ, etc. Visual Basic is the predefined function of the VB6 environment. if you want to code in VB strictly, download VB6, but if you want to use C#, etc. than use VS6. But by now, I recommend upgrading to VS2008
