Chimpanzees, gorillas and orangutans are considered the smartest animals. Scientists
haven't found a list yet, that puts one of these ahead of the others. They're all smarter than dolphins, but dolphins shouldn't be underestimated, as they too are very intelligent creatures. Scientists are still finding the extent of their intelligence.

According to the Jonathan Leake article on TimesOnline on January 3, 2010, dolphins are now known to be second only to humans in intelligence. Scientists say they should be considered "non-human persons". Please read the article for more details.

While measuring intelligence (or even defining it) can be a daunting task... monkey's don't seem to be any smarter than humans.
How are you smarter than monkeys?
I happen to hold myself in higher esteem then those who think monkeys are smarter then humans. Monkeys may be smart, but they are only animals. I am proud to say I am much smarter then a monkey. I haven't seen a monkey yet who can do trig sums or get a bachelor's degree in sociology.
