It can be, but not necessarily.

If I had the heights (continuous variable) of a class of students I might use a histogram. Conversely, if I had the number of cars (discrete variable) driving by every minute, I would use a line graph. It all depends on which kind of graph conveys the information to your audience in the best way.

A line graph is commonly used to show continuous data?

yes

Broken line graph?

A broken line graph shows information by plotting points of information on the graph and are connected with a line. This is used to show continuous data.

What type of graph is best to show continuous data?

The best type of graph to show continuous data is a line graph. Line graphs effectively display trends over time or other continuous variables, allowing for easy visualization of changes and patterns. They connect individual data points with lines, making it clear how values fluctuate within the dataset.

Say someone used a line graph to show info about the number of CDs she owned by different arists. Is a line graph a good choiceto show data.... Why or why not?

A line graph is not a good way to represent the data as the number of CDs is a continuous variable, but the artists are a discrete, categoric variable. A line graph should be used when both variables are continuous. A bar chart or bar graph should be used when one variable is continuous and one is discrete.

What graph is the best to show continuous data?

The best graph to show continuous data is a line graph. Line graphs effectively illustrate trends over time or continuous variables by connecting individual data points with lines, allowing for easy visualization of changes and patterns. They are particularly useful for displaying data sets where the relationship between variables is important, such as temperature changes or stock prices.

What is the difference between a bar graph and line graph?

A bar graph consists of columns of varying height to show data - looking like 'steps' across the page. A line graph uses a continuous line which changes direction with each piece of data.

What does the broken line show?

A broken line on a graph typically represents a discontinuity or missing data points. It can also indicate that the data points may not be continuous or that there is a gap in the data being presented.

The type of graph used to show continuous change?

A line graph.

What is the different of straight line graph and broken line graph?

Straight line graphs show continuous data (like your distance from something over time). Ones that have skips in the line are representations of noncontinuous, or discrete data (like how many papers you have in a folder).

What is a graph that uses line segments to show how data change?

line graph

What graph to represent continuous data?

To represent continuous data, a line graph is often the most effective choice. It displays data points connected by lines, highlighting trends and changes over time. Alternatively, a scatter plot can also be used to show the relationship between two continuous variables, allowing for the identification of patterns or correlations. Both graph types provide a clear visual representation of continuous data.

What is the type of graph that is useful for showing trends or continuous change?

A line graph is useful for showing trends or continuous change. Other kinds of graph also will show these, but a line graph is usually clearest.
