Here are some facts about how I take care of mine:
I only have a heat rock, and he lives on my ferret cage next to a window.
He gets down everyday to eat next to the cats, he uses the litter box, he hugs all of us, and puts his nose under our chins.
Not saying when we brought him home from the pet store as a baby that he was already this way, but it didn't take more than 6 months for him to be just fine with us. My Iguana named Pedro LOVES to be touched, there are tickle spots on him that do bug him, but he is pretty much like having a dinosaur cat or something. We didn't need to potty train him he learned it all from the cats.
HE IS SOOO SMART YOU HAVE NO IDEA.
One of the best pets I have ever had.
Oh yeah plus he walks on a leash.
I hope you all get along and he or she will make an awesome pet.
Yes they can be very friendly and a good pet, but it takes time. Iguanas are not domesticated so you need to tame them. When you first get your iguana he might be afraid of you, which will make him puff up and try to whip with his tail for defense. After the Iguana learns to trust you they make great pets and will stop trying to whip you. You just have to handle them everyday, but wait like a week before attempting to interact with him when you first get him so he can get used to his new place first. Iguanas love to have there bumpy spots on the side of there heads rubbed gently. Iguanas act allot like cats as they like to lounge and do there own thing, they don't act like dogs trying to please there masters. The only other time iguanas can get mean is when adult males get into breeding season, they will charge you or even try to bite you when they are in this state! Just leave them alone for about month (still feed them and stuff) and give them a plush iguana toy to get their frustrations out on. But most of the time iguanas are great friendly pets. Just make sure you feed him good greens like Collard Greens, Mustard Greens, and Dandelion leaves. Never feed him lettuce or insects, he needs green leafy stuff that is high in calcium. Animal Protein (meat, insects) will kill your iguana! Also have to get them a nice heat lamp and a UVB lamp. If you don't have enough time to try to tame a Iguana, you might want to look at Bearded Dragons, who are bit nicer straight from the pet store.
This is an awsome pet but you have to be ready to be responsible because they need certain foods and a BIGcage......but other than that they are great pets This is an awsome pet but you have to be ready to be responsible because they need certain foods and a BIGcage......but other than that they are great pets
Depends on what you want from a pet. Iguanas are reptiles, and reptiles aren't particularly cuddly and cant be trained i am seconding that reptiles can be trained this person above may not know that they can be trained but it takes time!!!
Well they would be if you don't know how to take good care of it. For example, a python would be a bad pet if you were trying it out. So the snake person would be better with a corn snake because they are small and aren't venomous.
What kind of lizard specifically? If you don't know, a reptile really isn't the pet for you. Try some guppies.
Yes, you can have a pet Iguana. But it depends on where you live, and if the forbid it or not.
