Recent, very surprising, research shows that narcissists sometimes are ego dystonic. Mostly they don't care about it, they consider it part of their uniqueness. But many narcissists do develop permanent "ego-dystony" (in human-speak: they constantly feel bad about themselves and their behaviour). When in such a mood of self-doubt, the narcissist is likely to utter things like "you deserve better" and "I can never please anyone". But these proclamations are meant to TEST the narcissist's closest, nearest, or dearest. Will they abandon/humiliate/betray him once they discover his true face?

What is an narcissist?

The two concepts are not often connected, but emasculated means deprived of masculinity (in literal terms that would mean castrated, although the term is more likely to be used metaphorically) and a narcissist is a person who is absorbed in self-love and does not care about other people. These are both unattractive personality traits, so an emasculated narcissist would be pretty bad.

What does only a masochist could ever love a narcissist means?

A Masochist is someone that loves pain, in short, and very generalized. Loving a narcissist is about pain, therefore only a masochist could love a narcissist. Having said that, I think someone was being very sarcastic when writing it as anyone can fall in love with a narcissist, they are very charming and morph themselves to you, for awhile. I think they were trying to make the point that only a masochist could enjoying loving a narcissist, due to the pain part. On that I concur.
