The palomino is a breed and a color. The breed just has certain rules the horse must follow. like the parents must be palomino, and the horse must be a certain shade of gold, ect. The palomino as a color is just a golden color with a white mane and tail and dark skin, versus light pink skin, which would classify the horse as a champagne.

Palomino is a color classification and not a breed. There are several breeds that accept the palomino color in their registry. The AQHA (Quarter Horse) and the APHA (American Paints) accept this color. The Arabian registry will also accept the palomino color in their 1/2 Arab registry.* Mr. Ed, one of the most famous palominos, was actually a Saddlebred.

So palomino colored horses can be found anywhere in the world but they are much more predominant in the stock-type breeds such as Quarter Horses.

*Full-blooded Arabs can't produce the palomino color but if you have an Arab x-cross it can be registered as a 1/2 Arab and can participate in 1/2 Arab classes at Arabian shows.

"Palomino" is the color of the horse or the pony, so it could be any breed of horse. I find, however, that most haflingers are palominos.

No just like a pinto is not a racehorse.

Palomino is a color not a breed though some Quarter horses can be Palomino racehorses. As can Thoroughbreds.

No, it is actually a color variation. Some breeds are very strict about what color the horses should be.

The Palomino registry is a color registry. The horse must be the correct color to be registered with the breed. Is it possible to have purebred palominos?

Palomino isn't a breed of horse, it is a colour. Answer 2: As stated above Palomino is a color, not a breed. The Palomino horse registries are color registries, not breed associations. You get Palomino coloring by breeding a horse with the cream gene to a chestnut and you should get a palomino. Any breed that carries both the cream and chestnut colorings can produce a palomino.

Can palominos be considered a purebred line of horses?

Palomino is a color and not a breed in and of itself. However many purebred breeds come in palomino as they carry the cream gene and those purebreds with the palomino coloring can be registered with a palomino registry. But again, no palomino is not a breed, let alone a pure breed.
